ABOUT THE EVENT
Created by AAF-KC, Gas Can began as a way inspire and highlight Kansas City’s creative talent, in and outside of design and advertising. The day long conference was comprised of speakers and workshops who brought their own creative flair to their passion. Workshops this year included a balloon maker, KRUMP dancers, and a cocktail creator, all engaging event attendees in unique ways.
WHERE THIS YEAR STARTED
Working with a talented team of AAF-KC professionals from across Kansas City, I worked as one of the design leads tasked with helping drive the creative look and feel for the 2018 conference. We updated and created the overall branding and design assets needed for the conference.
IMAGERY
Our team wanted the bring the thought back to what fuels you day-to-day, and what will fuel you at Gas Can. We wanted the imagery to reflect that as well, by filling the initial images with daily fuels such as pencils, coffee, wireframing, and cocktails. From there we expanded the images to what topics will fuel you at our conference microphones, balloons, dancing, and cocktails.

COLORING
Bringing back the red from prior years as our primary color to create a feeling of excitement, we additionally added secondary options – pink, orange, and yellow – to keep the imagery a bright, enticing, energetic.
ASSETS NEEDED:
Assets and updates needed initially included: update the previous year’s website, creating three months of weekly emails and social posts (three platforms), along with additional highlight videos, and event banners for Facebook and AAF-KC’s website.
Day of event material was also created and included: directional floor signs, welcome and workshop posters, notebooks, and name tags, all specifically designed for the current Gas Can Creative Conference.
