DirectTrust Website Rebuild
WHO THEY ARE
DirectTrust is a nonprofit that offers technical trust and confidence in the secure exchange of health information between member organizations. In addition to providing membership they are the standard body that is the industry framework policy and the accreditor for reliable and trusted exchange across the DirectTrust network.

OUR CHALLENGE
The client needed our help to condense information scattered through numerous pages on four different websites, in front of and behind log in screens, down to one platform that was easy to navigate. All the while, ensuring the information users needed was accounted for and provided.

After initial research, stakeholder interviews, and technical requirements gathering we determined the need to simplify the site navigation and provide consistent page structures with information condensed within each page.

What We Did
THE PROCESS
By using design sprints, we worked to design and develop together, alternating design and development phases. This allowed design and development to work together to quickly create designs that were technically feasible development.

With every sprint, I would start with pen and paper, sketching wireframes, trying to fit the information needed in consistent blocking and architecture. After several sprints, a pattern emerged, and this became less necessary.

After sketching, I would translate those blocks into a loose black and white prototype, using client content to refine the format more. In addition to the prototype, I would provide high fidelity examples of key screens to provide the development team guidance.

From there we would meet with the client weekly to review the progress on wires and address any questions. At the end of each design sprint, we would formally review the prototype again, along with any high fidelity, UI elements, or development that had been created as well.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
Throughout the development sprints, I led the Design QA process. This included reviewing the development progress for design consistency and reporting any needed changes back to developers through JIRA.

OUTCOME
We were able to produce the website in a phased approach, an MVP phase followed by a robust rest of site release. Through this redesign, we restructured and condensed the architecture and content to fit the natural journey that matched what users expected when navigating through DirectTrust. Condensing four websites into one, and creating a cleaner and clearer experience for all users.
